Prizes & Awards

The Sinnecker-Kunz Award for early career researchers (ECRs) will be presented during the 16th International Symposium on Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases (ISTTBD-XVI) in 2025.

The aim of the award is to acknowledge distinguished achievements by ECRs.

The award is named in honour of the late virologist Professor Herbert Sinnecker, who was the first to find tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus in Germany and the virologist Christian Kunz, who developed the first European TBE vaccine.

This is the sixth time that the award will be presented.

Eligible persons for the award are ECRs who are currently performing postgraduate studies, or have recently (after March 2023) obtained a MSc or PhD degree in the field of ticks and tick-borne diseases (not restricted to TBE research only!). Applicants can submit their abstracts and CV until 01 December 2024. A short note from your university supervisor confirming your status as an ECR must also be enclosed with the application.

Successful applicants will be selected based on the quality of the abstracts and invited to present their research during the Sinnecker-Kunz session, which will be part of the regular conference programme. A jury of scientists will appraise all presentations and the three best presentations will be awarded during the closing ceremony.

Two Poster Awards will be selected at the 16th International Symposium on Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases (ISTTBD-XVI) from all presented poster submissions. A jury of scientists will appraise all posters and the awards will be presented during the closing ceremony.
